Are you looking for the best online teaching job so you can earn by becoming a tutor? Then this video is for you. My name is Mikael, and I have tested hundreds of different ways to make money online. I’ve made a living online for more than seven or eight years. Many viewers here have asked me if I could make a video about some opportunities if they want to earn by becoming a tutor. Therefore, I decided to record this video, where I will show you five great opportunities for this.
Requirements as an Online Teacher
What Are the Basic Requirements?
Before I go over the options, I want to explain a little bit about some of the requirements when it comes to becoming an online teacher or tutor, and also what you can expect in terms of earnings. It’s important to understand that most online tutoring platforms have certain requirements. Of course, you can’t just let anyone teach because, in many cases, it’s even children that you would have to teach. Often, you have to have certain experience and sometimes even certain certifications. You also need to be aware that you need to prove this, so it’s not enough to just say it. Usually, you need to show that you actually have the certifications if you say you do. Sometimes, certain platforms will also ask you to go through a background check, and in some cases, you would even have to pay for this. It’s usually not a lot you have to pay—sometimes like between $10 or $20 or so, but it’s just something to be aware of. There can, in some cases, be that expense there. But of course, if you are confident with your skills and you know that this is something you want to do long term, then the earnings you can get out of it will easily cover that.
Expected Earnings
Speaking of earnings, let’s also talk a little bit about what you can expect to earn. So, if you end up becoming an online teacher or tutor, then there are definitely great earning opportunities. Just be aware that you, of course, in most cases, have to work your way up. So when you start, often there can be a lower rate. But of course, that also depends on your experience and your skills. That is how it is when you start on a new platform. But I have seen examples of people who earn $50 or more per hour by doing this. On some platforms, it will also be between $15 and $30. But overall, if you are dedicated to this, then it is definitely a way to make a full-time income in a flexible way. Because usually, you can do it from home. Just be aware that, of course, you need a setting where you can teach, so you need a quiet room. You need a webcam. You need a good microphone, things like this. So, these are just things you need to be aware of. But if you have all that, then there are definitely great opportunities.
Five Great Platforms for Online Tutoring Jobs
Platform 1: Skooli
The first platform I want to show you is called Skooli. You can go to the website and read all about it. What I like about most of these is that they are very clear about the requirements that you need. Most of them have a special section for tutors. You can easily find that through the menu on Skooli. It’s the same on most platforms, and you can scroll through and see more about the requirements. For example, you can see that you need a bachelor’s degree or higher, a government-issued teaching license, and specialized instructor qualifications. If you don’t have them, don’t bother applying. But you can read more about it, how to get verified, and all this. It’s usually quite easy to sign up, but be aware that you need to spend some time filling it out, proving your qualifications, and all that. Platform 2: MyTutor
Next, we have MyTutor, which is available only if you live in the UK. You can teach both classes and private tutoring here. You can earn between £15 and up to £50 per hour. They also say that you don’t need any experience, though there are still certain requirements. You can read all about it on the website. To get started, you need to create an account, then book an interview. This is how they’ll find out if you’re a good fit. If you get approved, then you need to complete your profile, and then you can start working and earning.
Platform 3: BookNook
The next option is called BookNook, which is another online tutoring platform. Just be aware that this is only for U.S. residents. It doesn’t mean you have to live in the U.S., but you do need to conduct lessons in a time zone that is appropriate for the U.S. So just be aware of that. Here, you can earn around $20 per hour, so it also pays quite nicely.
Platform 4: Course Hero
The next option is Course Hero. Here, you get access to a bunch of questions that students are asking. You can answer them and earn. You can earn up to $1,000 or more per month. But this is for the top earners, so that doesn’t mean you’ll automatically earn that just because you join. You would have to be very active to reach that amount. If you are very active, then this would be the maximum amount you should expect to earn from Course Hero. The great thing is you can work whenever you want and basically anywhere you want. To get started, you just need to create your account, give all the basic information, and choose the topics you can tutor in. Then, you need to upload your ID and academic credentials, because for teaching jobs, it’s important that they know who you say you are. Within a few days, if they approve you, you can start earning. I like that the website shows examples of some of the questions students ask and the tutor’s answers. You can see several examples in different topics, and it’s something you could do.
Platform 5: Cambly
The last platform I wanted to show is called Cambly. This platform specializes in teaching students to speak English. Most of the students are not native English speakers, and they want to learn English. They have different rates depending on what type of students you teach. In general, you can earn around $12 per hour just on regular Cambly. On Cambly Kids, where you teach English to children, you can earn $17 per hour. Since you have students from all over the world, you can tutor anytime because the students will be available at different times depending on their time zones. It makes it quite flexible. So if you have the skills and are interested in teaching online, then Cambly could be a great option.
