Intro to Care.com Review
Do you want to know how you potentially can earn up to $ per hour on Care.com and if it’s really worth it? Then this video is for you. My name is Mikael and I’ve tested hundreds of different ways to make money online. And many viewers have recently asked me for an updated Care.com review. So I decided to record this video where I share my opinion about it and both the pros and the cons based on my opinion after having worked online for more than years. And then based on that, you can figure out if this is the right opportunity for you or not.
Who can join
So let’s start by going over the basics of what Care.com is and who can join. And it is a platform you can join and get this caregiving job. It can be Pet Care, Child Care, Senior Care, Housekeeping, and Tutoring. So if you want to earn money by providing any of these services, then that is possible on Care.com. And if we just scroll down to the bottom of the page here, then you can see fine care around the world and then you can see the countries it is currently available in. So it is available in quite a few countries but not all countries. But it is only in if you live in one of these countries. You need to go to the specific website for your country, choose it, and then you can sign up. So let’s talk more about that sign-up process because that’s a little bit unusual and then also of course the overall earning potential, how you can get paid, and all that.
How to get started
Joining the Platform
So if you decide you want to join Care.com, then you just go to the website and you can click the join now button. Just be aware that then you have two options and you need to choose whether you are looking for a job or if you’re looking for a caregiver, so someone that is looking to hire others or someone that is looking to get a job as a caregiver. And be aware that these jobs will be in your local area so you would need to go in most cases physically to certain locations to do these jobs, of course. And then you just need to fill out some basic information including your hourly rate.
Setting Your Hourly Rate
This is where you can basically set it yourself. But of course, if you set it too high, you will likely not get hired and especially at first when you’re building your reputation and all that. You probably need to set it a little bit lower but also not too low. And you cannot see examples of jobs and what others are actually offering there until actually you’ve signed up. But you can see some examples on the website there, and you can see there are many. And I can tell you from having checked it out there that many are charging you, of course depending on the country, somewhere between $ and $ per hour. You can also see examples of that here. So it is not unrealistic. But as mentioned, when you first start out, maybe you have to set it slightly lower than the average to get a good reputation and build that up. However, not until after you have set this up and chosen your hourly rate, which is a little bit hard to do right away when you haven’t even had an inside look, in my opinion. That’s one of the things I don’t like about it.
Membership Fees
The next screen you will see is that there is a fee to actually join. And you have two options. You can get this premium membership which would be you see $ or $. the first month and then after that it will be $ per month or you can get a basic one where you pay $ for a full year and then it automatically renews there. And the premium membership includes a background check because they need to do a background check. That’s quite normal for platforms like this. They need to know who they’re hiring is not like a criminal or something like that.
Benefits of Premium Membership
But also here, you will get some benefits where you will rank higher when people are looking for a job for people to hire here. You can also apply for the jobs there. You can see who viewed your profile, learn fast about new jobs. So this definitely gives more benefits. But there is also a fee you need to be aware of that. So it is only if you are serious and then you know that’s fair enough. It’s not a high fee if you are serious and if you know you can find a lot of good jobs.
Drawbacks of the Sign-up Process
What I don’t like is that you actually go through this process of signing up and you can’t even really get an inside look, see the opportunities before you have to pay. And that’s something I really dislike. I do think that should be a little bit more clear about this before it even starts and also give you a better experience during the sign-up process to help you choose the hourly rate and all these different things. But that’s just my opinion about it and that’s also why I want to say it here so you know exactly what to expect.
Types of Jobs Available
If you then choose to do this, then you can find quite a decent number of different jobs. And as I showed here, the jobs will be you know child care, senior care, housekeeping, pet care, and tutoring. That is the type of caregiving jobs that you can find here. So of course, you need to be good at this. You need to care about other people. You need to want to help them or animals if you go for the pet care to become good at a job like this and then also earn.
Payout Options
There are different ways you get paid when you get hired on Care.com. You can see they have jobs that pay outside the Care.com platform and these can be the recurring long-term jobs like nannies, some pet care positions, senior care needs, tutoring help, and home care and housekeeping. They take place online, what they call booking requests, and that can be these one-time child care jobs or dog walking, doggy daycare, pet sitting, and boarding. Then you will get actually paid through the caregiver app. So it works quite well and it does make sense.
Complaints About Care
I have also seen quite a few complaints about Care.com, so I just also want to address this and share my opinion about it. So when you go to TrustPilot, you can see it is not impressive. It has only . and a lot of one-star reviews. So a lot of people have asked me about this, so I just wanted to share my opinion about this.
Using TrustPilot for Research
When it comes to something like TrustPilot, I do use it in my research because it does give you an overall idea but you do need to be very critical for several reasons. First of all, the results I’m not saying that for Care.com but in general, with something like TrustPilot or any review site, the result can very easily be manipulated either to be overly negative or positive. Some people attack it and want to make it really bad reviews. They can do that if the platform itself wants to manipulate it to have better reviews, they can also do that. So always be critical. But sometimes you can get a good sense of it by actually reading the reviews.
What to Look Out For in Reviews
Sometimes you can just see it’s fake or sometimes the people that complain, and I’ve seen a lot of them here, will say things like, “Well, that’s not really what I would see as something like a deal-breaker or a valid concern.” Sometimes it can be like, “Oh, I didn’t get hired,” and then they give a one-star review. And you know that’s not really a valid review in my opinion because there can be so many reasons, and sometimes people are just angry and bitter and then they go complain on TrustPilot. But people that are happy often don’t go and share their experiences, so that’s one thing to be aware of.
Key Complaints on Care.com
Another thing to be aware of is that here there are reviews of both people getting hired and also people hiring. So that also makes it a little bit more confusing. But from what I have seen, there are some complaints here from people that are getting jobs on Care.com and using it to earn that do seem valid, and I do see some of the points that I understand why they might not be happy with the experience and there seems to be some things that could definitely be improved. But there are also a lot of the complaints that as I just gave you some examples of, where I don’t really see it as a valid complaint.
Final Verdict
To sum it all up, Care.com definitely does give you some opportunities to potentially earn some quite decent money if you like this type of job. But it also has some disadvantages. First of all, you need to be aware that of course, it takes some time to build up a reputation. You do need to pay before you can even really see what it is about and also you do need to physically go to certain locations. If you like that physical contact and really love caregiving jobs, then it definitely can be an opportunity. But just be aware that there have been some complaints, especially about the lack of support if needed and things like that, so just take that into consideration. But make your own judgment on that because these online reviews, you know, on TrustPilot as I showed you, it can sometimes be hard to figure out exactly what’s going on.
